    Dirtiest Programs

I get a lot of e-mail from fans, coaches and other "people" through this office and I thought you all might like to read about this. The list was made in July of 2007. No Tenn, or VT, or ND, but Miami is in there at 10.
It is fitting I guess that the worst team is from the now defunct old southwest conference which used to have SMU in there. SMU I believe is the only football program to receive the death penalty. Here is the sight.

    Re: Dirtiest Programs

Before the NCAA had a "watchdog" program and cracked down on football progarms, can you imagine though what it was like between the 50's up to early 80's how the oil and money flowed for the players that went to the schools in the Old Southwest Conference, Big 8, and yes, even in the SEC? That was truely a time when NO ONE cared how you did academically.
I remember reading Bozworth (sp) driving a vette and working as a security guard at 50 dollars an hour and Jimmy Johnson at Ok. State and Barry Switzer at Oklahoma committing and laughing on how Ok. would beat Oklahoma State because that had more money to buy better players.

Joe Namath always said he took a paycut when he left Bama and went to the Jets.

    Re: Dirtiest Programs

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">We start our trip through the dirtiest programs of the modern era of infractions with a mild surprise: how did The U -- a program with a real, national reputation for recruiting thugs and miscreants -- end up so far down the list?

The answer is surprisingly simple: while Hurricane players might have been unable to avoid embarrassing Miami and its fans, the university itself has stayed mostly off of the NCAA's radar, with only one major infraction since 1987. What sets Miami apart from the dozens of other schools with a single violation in the last two decades was the severity of it. The Hurricanes' trip before the Committee on Infractions in 1995 involved years of ill-gotten financial aid and what the NCAA refers to as "pay for play".</div></div>

    So, in other words:

"We put Miami on this list due to their media-given reputation as thugs and miscreants, even though there's no real evidence of that other than their major 1987 infraction and probationary period in the 90's. Just to perpetuate the stereotype, ya know?"

I think FSU could have easily taken our slot, even Tennessee given the arrests and such in the past few years.

They should just put all 117 or 119 teams on that list because there is no doubt in my mind that under the table stuff goes on at all schools, it is just who is smart enough to hide it the best. For certain athletes, special "things" are given at every school, even down home at our local schools, E&H and UVA-Wise and for anybody to think otherwise really doesn't know what is going on.
